I’m meditative of only operative partial time during an automobile emporium assisting them repair cars. For similar to smallest salary or whatever. Just so we could sense about cars.
But a large subject is, would this kind of work knowledge (along with internships) be applicable to an engineering tyro who wants to go in to a automotive attention after he graduates?

I’m an aerospace engineering student, and I think it won’t help you. Many people assume that because you’re an engineering student, you know how to fix autos and mount kitchen closets (which you may or may not know, but it has little to do with majoring in engineering). I don’t think employers really care for experience fixing cars; focus on getting meaningful internship in design at the car companies (perhaps not the best time to get one…) or big corporations like Procter & Gamble etc.
Of course it will help! MEs who can understand the car and how to do maintenance are always a whole lot ahead of those who can’t. You will be able to design much better than the competition, and can do the plant or process engineer route, as well as design. In fact, I maintain that if an engineer can’t keep his car running and wire his house, he ain’t fit to call himself an engineer. That often puts a lot of 3rd world students at a disadvantage, thru no fault of their own.
Beware – the auto industry will be in major turmoil for several years now, so you might change that thought.
Any job that contributes to your cost of getting an education is of value. Many companies give a bit of extra credit to students who have work experience of any kind.
I agree that you should consider other areas for future employment other than the auto industry. That is very limiting for a young engineer. The wider your experience, the better you will know what you really want to do once you graduate.
As an example: I interned one semester for an aerospace company. It was a good experience but it told me I really didn’t want to work in that environment for a career.
